• Systems Administration for more than 20 SunOS, Solaris and FreeBSD servers of various sizes.
• Campus email administration, including:
  1. Local switching services, including many off-campus local educational establishments and small businesses.
  2. Offsite relaying through firewall.
  3. Configuration and registration of new hosts or sites.
  4. Hardware and software support.
• Usenet administration. This includes:
  1. Local newsreading services, using a feeder/reader configuration.
  2. Local feeding, both to campus and Manchester area.
  3. National/international feeding and administration.
  4. Support of Solaris 2 for news feeding, including FDDI, StorageArray and PrestoServe.
• Support for various network and user databases, including DNS, dynamic host addressing protocols, email address and alias databases containing more than 30,000 users.
• General support for BSD UNIX based systems, e.g. SunOS and FreeBSD.
• Support for certain applications on SG, HP and other hardware.
• Ongoing ``back-office'' support to many colleagues around the campus.
• Overseeing work and providing support to junior colleagues and Network Mail Officer.
• Programming in C, C++, perl, sh and various other languages.
• X-Windows programming.
• PC hardware support, including:
  1. Physically building PCs.
  2. Fault-finding and repair.
  3. ``Best Bang For Buck'' purchasing decisions.
• Network Time Syncronisation (NTP).
• Web Authoring and Systems Administration, including CGI scripting for various University departments.
• Nynex Cable Modem trialist - doing the same things on a small network at home.
